Events & Serving

Here you will find a wide variety of meaningful events and unique opportunities both internal and external to Calvary. These are great ways to get more involved in both our church and our community. For each event or opportunity there will be a title, address, date, time, description, and Calvary contact person. We hope you find something that you are interested in joining us for and are moved deeply as a result.

Volunteers meet on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of each month (April-November) to help maintain the orchard. We also host themed events for the Pontiac community on the 3rd Saturday of every month (May-October). Each event offers food, fellowship, games, crafts, and more. Our community orchard allows you to get your hands dirty to help those in need and build deep relationships with our Pontiac neighbors. The S Word Movie

6805 Bluegrass Dr, Clarkston, MI

September 22 | 4pm

A suicide attempt survivor is on a mission to find fellow survivors and document their stories of unguarded courage, insight, pain, and humor. The S Word chronicles the lives of attempt survivors in a powerful feature documentary that puts a human face to a topic that has long been stigmatized and buried with the lives it has claimed. Suicide affects people of all ages, races, faiths, ethnicities, gender presentations, sexual orientations, professions, and so much more. We will be viewing the movie and offering a time of important debriefing afterward at our Clarkston campus. Disclaimer: Ages 13+ welcome. Due to the nature of the content, we ask that all attendees under the age of 18 be accompanied by an adult. This film contains personal accounts related to suicide and loss, highlighting what it means to be an attempt survivor. Depending on your own personal history, there may be triggers for memories and feelings. The LIFE Ministry Team at Calvary Lutheran Church is devoted to suicide prevention and mental health awareness. We are a platform for community engagement on this critical and all too real topic that touches all ages. After the film there will be debriefing groups based upon either a survivor experience or a loss experience. Assistance will also be available onsite through resource referrals and local mental health professionals.
