Christianity & World Religions, Summer Sermon Series Continues

Throughout the year we celebrate the central events of our Christian faith and affirm our belief that through Jesus’ life, death and resurrection we are saved by grace through faith and called to follow as his disciples throughout our lives. Yet along the journey we will meet others in our religiously diverse society who have strong-held, yet distinctly different ideas and beliefs. If we are to engage in meaningful dialog, undo stereotypes, and promote a climate of peace and understanding in our world, it is essential that Christians seek to understand the faiths of others, exploring both similarities and differences. In doing so we also learn more about our own faith and why it matters so much to us.

Using as a basis materials developed by Pastor Adam Hamilton, we will explore Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam, Judaism, and other religious perspectives, describing their origins, some fundamental teachings, distinctive practices, and their unique contributions to our world. Together we will seek ways to build bridges with others so that we can grow in faith, love our neighbor and find positive ways to share the Gospel.

Our hope is that we will each grow in PASSION and COMPASSION through this study. In addition to this sermon series, there will also be a number of opportunities in the coming year to delve deeper into these important issues. This is sure to be a very interesting and challenging sermon series that you won’t want to miss!

Aug 18 | Pontiac Community Orchard | 1pm | Back to School Celebration

All is well at the Pontiac campus. Calvary’s Young Adult Group will be hosting the August event. If you are available to help out, contact Chris Cortez. You will have great support and will be blessed beyond belief.

Please encourage our neighbors in Pontiac by bringing in backpacks filled with school supplies by August 12th. See the display in the Welcome Center.

We could also use some more children’s books to add to the Little Orchard Library. They are going through them quickly, which is a wonderful thing!

Pontiac Block Party was a Success!

Many thanks to all who helped make July 21st  a huge success with our Pontiac neighbors. A bit of rain did not keep anybody down and we must have painted hundreds of little faces. One sweet little boy even fell asleep mid-paint. Thanks to all those that volunteered: Alyce Drews, Darlene Brokenshaw, Nicole Smith and friend Liza, Gene Smith, Ray Chobot, Sally Lange, Chris Cortez, Kellee, Mathew and Keeton Rainoldi, Pastor Kate and Greg Zywicki, and Pastor Ken & Diane Greble. It was a fun crew and we sure met a lot of neighbors!
