Who we are

We are here Because You Matter! Everyone is invited to come as they really are, to become all that God has made them to be. We believe that each of us is blessed so that we may be a blessing to others and our mission is "To Know Christ and to Make Christ Known."

Calvary is unique in that we offer a relaxed feel and modern worship style while rooted in our Lutheran belief that emphasize God's grace for all. This balance of healthy innovation and tradition is just one of the things that set us apart. We strive to offer a spiritual growth pathway for people to: enter into relationship with God, engage and deepen their faith, be equipped as Jesus' disciples in today's world, and extend that faith to others.

Our Youth & Family Ministry offers spiritual education that is tailored to each age level which we call PHASE. The catchphrase we use for this approach is, "It's just a PHASE, Don't Miss It". Our goal is to help everyone at Calvary make the most of each phase of their life.

We believe that we are saved by grace through faith, meaning that God loves all of us absolutely unconditionally. Calvary is a poly-site ministry or in other words, is one church in multiple locations with a unique presence in Clarkston, Pontiac, LapeerTanzania, and Jerusalem. Our dream is to grow widely into our communities, but more importantly, deeply into the lives of each and every person we encounter.

We are a member of the ELCA (Evangelical Lutheran Church in America), which connects us to other churches and is the foundation for our theology and beliefs. You will find that we take an inspired view of the Bible rather than a literal perspective, and believe that faith and science are not incompatible. We offer communion weekly open to all. You do not have to be a member, Lutheran, or even clear about what you believe in order to fully participate in Holy Communion.

Calvary aspires to be a community that welcomes people of all ages, cultures, economic statuses, races, and sexual orientations. Our nine (9) core values include: Bible centered, grace oriented, grounded in prayer, inspiring worship, caring community fellowship, spiritual development, empowered Christians in action, outward focused, and Christian community service. These things don't change - but how we do and live them out likely will.
