Calvary is here Because You Matter! People are invited to come as they REALLY are, to become all that God has made them to be. We believe that we are blessed so that we may be a blessing to others and our mission is ultimately "To Know Christ and to Make Christ Known".
Calvary is unique in that we offer a relaxed feel and modern worship style without being detached from our Lutheran roots that emphasize God's grace for all. This balance of healthy innovation and tradition is just one of the things that set us apart. Our goal is to be a place that offers a spiritual growth pathway for people to: enter into relationship with God, engage and deepen their faith, be equipped as Jesus' disciples in today's world, and extend that faith to others.
For children, youth, and families we offer a ministry and spiritual education that is tailored to each age level which we call PHASE. The catchphrase we use for this approach is, "it's just a phase, don't miss it". Our goal is to help every person at Calvary make the most of each phase of their life.
We believe that we are saved by grace through faith which means that God loves all of us absolutely unconditionally. Calvary is a poly-site ministry or in other words, is one church in multiple locations with a unique presence in Clarkston, White Lake, Pontiac, Lapeer, Pinckney, Tanzania, and Jerusalem. Our dream is to grow widely into our communities, but more importantly, deeply into the lives of each and every person we encounter.
We are a member of the ELCA (Evangelical Lutheran Church in America), which connects us to other churches and is the foundation for our theology and beliefs. You will find that we take an inspired view of the Bible rather than a literal perspective, and believe that faith and science are not incompatible. We always offer communion that is open to all people so you do not have to be a member, or a Lutheran, or even sure of what you believe at all in order to fully participate.
Calvary aspires to be a community that welcomes people of all ages, cultures, economic statuses, races, and sexual orientations. Our core values are to be Bible centered, grace oriented, grounded in prayer, offer inspiring worship, have outward community focus, provide caring community fellowship, spur spiritual development, partake in faithful community service, and develop empowered Christians in action to make a difference in the world.
